{"id":460,"date":"2023-01-28T22:22:32","date_gmt":"2023-01-28T22:22:32","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/nashvilledojo.com\/dojo\/?page_id=460"},"modified":"2023-01-28T22:22:32","modified_gmt":"2023-01-28T22:22:32","slug":"kumite","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/nashvilledojo.com\/dojo\/kumite\/","title":{"rendered":"Kumite"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Fighting is commonly referred to as kumite, but the name literally means \u201cgrappling hands.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We focus on three different styles of kumite:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Ippon Kumite \u2013 One step&nbsp;sparring, used for practicing stances, balance, coordination, power, speed, techniques, and timing.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Sanbon Kumite \u2013 Three-step sparring, similar to Ippon kumite.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Jiyu Kumite \u2013 Free sparring, which can further be broken down into two styles: tournament and self-defense kumite.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Safety First<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>When practicing Jiyu Kumite, we are aware that accidents can happen.
